Side-project

I got curious how uploading images works here, so I decided to show you the problem I’m currently doing in my free time. One of my colleagues (and my friend) is making a PhD in similar field to mine and some of the research I have done will be of use. I promised to give the results of the laboratory tests along with a NX Nastran model for them (which I always wanted to do but never had enough time to!).

The model itself is quite simple. To pre-post process I use Femap and the only interesting thing in this case was that I had to write a script that deforms a shell according to data given in excel sheet (this is how I stored imperfection measurement informations from the laboratory tests).

In the end almost everything is fine – load-bearing capacity between the model and lab-test is in accordance (with around 1.5% tolerance that I find satisfying), but for whatever reason the capacity failure occurs in numerical model with deformations around 2-3 times smaller than in laboratory tests. I must look into it but didn’t have time – this is certainly something I will work on.

Congratulations! You found my junkyard 😛

This is the place where I test things. “technically” this is the first post, but in truth this is the second one. The first one was only one sentence along the lines of “Wow, it’s actually scarry to post things online”, or something similar. Sadly, I deleted it at some point while cleaning up, and I regret that – but I guess this makes this post the “current first blog post” of mine 🙂

A good advice – there is plenty of stuff below, I wouldn’t click on any if I were you… they are here since I’m testing things out, and I wouldn’t like to crast your PC or something. But if you are an adventorous person… go for it. Just remember that things you are signing up may not exist 😛
