Various Conveyor Projects

I’ve decided to show all of them as one entry, even though we have delivered several successful projects.

Designing conveyors is an interesting problem, as those structures tend to be very long and slender. This may potentially lead to global stability issues (where entire truss fails due to buckling, rather than its components). However, with understanding of stability phenomena, this can be solved with special imperfection cases in nonlinear analysis.

Additionally, such structures often have problems with supporting, since a lot of things can be placed below them, and finding a place to make a column may be difficult. This leads to interesting support design, often missing bracings, or asymmetrical in geometry.

Project Takeaway:

Stability can manifest itself in interesting ways. For long and slender trusses this can lead to global buckling of entire truss (as a complex member). Such failure cannot be analyzed with simple application of “buckling length”, since there is no component representing entire truss as an element (that you could apply a buckling length to!).
