I always think about those two projects together, as they were similar and done for the same Customer. Even though they were built in Belgium and China respectively.
Both were a quite complex tasks. Since most of the pipes were outdoors thermal loading was high, and with great lengths, compensation of deformations became a problem. In several places pipes were fixed to devices that couldn’t absorb almost any load, so set of compensation devices and supports with allowable movement restrictions were in place to guarantee that the load won’t be applied.
Since other influences provided quite heavy loading, finding a compromise between allowable movement and overall capacity of the supports (and geometric stability of the system!) was a really interesting problem.
Pipeline in China was my first design in Asia, so this is also a milestone in my career.
Without a doubt boundary conditions played a huge role in this project! It’s always very important to pay attention to this part of the design, but when you have 1m diameter pipes extending due to thermal loading, this becomes critical!
The first project we did with Enterfea was a silos design in 2015. Their non-linear FEA analyzes allowed to significantly reduce the costs of that project. We have been working successfully with Enterfea for many years. Enterfea is always a reliable partner for the static design of our conveyor technology. In our current project, we are jointly developing a completely new, statically optimized conveyor system for integration into our standard.
