Silos on ships in Venezuela
This is a project dear to my heart. This was just before I finished PhD and was quite the challenge at that time. Silos themselves were very small (of diameter around 3m), but the challenges with loading were very interesting!
Since silos were foreseen to transport barite on ships (near coast of Venezuela) several things have to be taken into account. The most interesting are inclination of the structure and accelerations due to wave motions.
This is so far the smallest silo I have designed, but also one with a real complexity to the solution. It was interesting to design something connected with naval engineering – a great experience for sure!
