If you are looking to learn how to practically use Nonlinear FEA in structural design (and learn a LOT about proper design along the way!) while building confidence in your skills this course is for you.

This is an advanced-level course, so it would be best if you would have basic “working” knowledge of FEA before you start.

Engineering students are also welcome of course. The course teaches advanced concepts, but starts from the beginning when it comes to nonlinearities, so previous knowledge of that field is not needed, and you can start with the course with basic engineering knowledge (very basics of strength of materials etc.).

• This course teaches how to perform Nonlinear FEA analysis mostly of metal structures. I’m mentioning this, as “Nonlinear FEA” is a vast universe and modeling a “beating human heart” would be treated as “nonlinear” as well… and I can’t help you with that.

To some extent, the understanding of how nonlinear FEA works, will be useful in all possible nonlinear FEA applications, although the best benefits you will get when you wish to work with metal components/elements as this is where I have the most experience too, and naturally I’ve used such models as examples to teach various concepts.

On the same note, there is nothing about CFD here, I don’t even mention electromagnetism etc. We will focus on the structural design.

• Most examples are made in Femap with NX Nastran, with several being done in RFEM (Dlubal). However, I strongly encourage all students to use the software they will use at work while following this course, since you want to get accustomed to software you will be working on.

So far students finished my course using Ansys, Abaqus, Staad and many other packages – examples are done in such a way, that you can easily follow them in any FEA package as long as you have very basic knowledge about it.

If you want to, you can get a 30 days trial version of Femap and simply use the same software as I do.

• Honestly, even without previous FEA knowledge you will be able to follow the course as it teaches everything you need to know…

…however, I wouldn’t recommend that.

I feel that it’s way better to do the course when you have a solid base in FEA Fundamentals, and my Breakthrough FEA Course will serve you much better as the starting point (and you can get back to this course later with a strong foundation to build on).
